Gabriel Girard

I am originally from Canada, but I have been living in Africa for the past 6 years, the last three of which have been spent in Zanzibar.

When I first arrived to the island, there were minimal options for yoga and so a self-practice grew to a yoga sharing circle, to community outreach yoga development for local Zanzibaris, to offering health and wellness workshops with various alternative health practitioners in Zanzibar, and finally to a shared Yoga Studio and Space in Stonetown.

I am a certified Hatha yoga teacher and I like to work with Beginner Yogis because I like to make yoga accessible to as many people as possible. Yoga to me is many different things, and I believe however your yoga looks and feels, there are benefits for everyone at every level – it’s just a matter of finding your yoga. I am a Reiki Level 1 practitioner, learning from my mother who is a Reiki Master, and developing more options for sharing health, healing and opportunities for growing the collective conscious.

Gabriel is a french-canadian yoga teacher initially trained at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York city in 2011. He is today a devotee on the path of BKS Iyengar. He is in his second year of a 3 year training program through the guidance of Isabelle Mullie, a renowned Iyengar teacher.

Gabriel has taught in New York, Montreal, Vancouver, Tarllim. He currently teaches Hatha Flow, Vinyasa Yoga and Yoga Align classes at O Yoga, Yoga Owl and L'espace Re-Source in Lyon.

He has been practicing yoga for 10 years and is an active meditator since 2012 through Vipassana meditation retreat.

Also a trained and devoted musician, Gabriel accompanies sacred chants on the guitar.

about

the retreat

We’ve planned a beautiful, magical and authentic trip to the heart of one of the most vibrant places on earth, Kisimkazi, Zanzibar and we want you to join us! We are so excited to be guiding this retreat! We’ve scoured Zanzibar to find a beautiful yoga retreat lodge that would give us a taste of nature while not being too far from the cultural deliciousness of Stone Town which is just 55 kilometers away.  Kizimkazi’s beaches are unique to Zanzibar not only for the beautiful uninterrupted views of the sun setting over the Indian Ocean, but better still the surrounding waters are also famous as the playground for Zanzibar’s dolphins! The infinity swimming pool of 15m long is designed in a way that helps you to relax and refresh while enjoying the sunset views.

We balanced our retreat so that you can have a combination of rest and relaxation and exploration!

We believe that flirting with your edge and diving deep into the land and culture of a place is fuel for the soul and fundamental to a deep journey.

Zanzibar is blessed with a warm, sultry climate; beaches with sand so soft in parts it feels like walking on flour; and reefs so rich with coral and tropical fish you feel as if you are swimming in a giant aquarium. Comprising two large islands, Unguja (commonly referred to as Zanzibar) and Pemba, fringed by many more, the archipelago is able to mesmerize most travelers into meditative contemplation.

Apart from its beaches, which reach deep into the ocean, turning the shoreline into unreal shades of turquoise blue, Zanzibar offers island-hoppers a uniquely East African flavor.

From the tall traditionally garbed Maasai striding across the beach, and Swahili and Indian traders in long dress and embroidered skull caps, to the beautifully clad women - their bodies and heads chastely wrapped in colorful kangas, the blend of cultures is as identifiable as the cuisine.

Karamba Lodge Resort is a real gem where all rooms with ocean view and the Chef Miguel is a Catalan Chef who created a fusion of the Mediterranean diet with the Zanzibar Island Spices.

He uses natural, organic, fresh and local ingredients to make at your convenience VEGAN, VEGETARIAN or FISH & MEAT delicisous meals.
